Why should salespeople care about social insight, IT folks about self-motivation, or managers about emotional reflection? Simple: because even if you’re not wrestling with your own emotions, you’re definitely wrestling with everyone else’s. That’s why “emotional intelligence” isn’t just HR’s favorite buzzword—it’s the difference between thriving at work and starring in your own daily workplace drama.

Our research with nearly 35,000 people using the MEIQ-HR-R3 (Multidimensional Emotional Intelligence Quotient – Human Resources Version) shows a clear pattern: top performers consistently score higher on emotional intelligence. In fact, they outscored less successful peers across all 33 EQ skills, with gaps of 10+ points on 23 of them. The biggest differences showed up in resilience, self-motivation, self-esteem, positive mindset, and self-control—traits that not only drive performance, but also reduce workplace conflict and boost peer popularity.

Hiring managers love a polished CV, glowing references, and a smooth interview. On paper, the candidate looks like a rock star. But if technical skills alone guaranteed success, why do so many “perfect hires” crash and burn the moment real life kicks in? Suddenly, the pressure is too much, they can’t mesh with the team, and that flawless façade cracks faster than cheap glassware. What’s missing? Our research points to one glaring gap: emotional intelligence—the trait that separates the true high performers from the “looked good on paper” crowd.

In our study, the importance of emotional intelligence was especially obvious in people-heavy jobs. No surprise here: the top scorers came from fields where dealing with humans is basically the job description—community work, healthcare, management, admin support, and law. And if you’re rolling your eyes thinking all this EQ talk is just touchy-feely fluff, here’s the part where the stats step in and prove otherwise.

98% of people with high EQ enjoy learning new things (compared to 77% of those with low EQ).

82% carefully think through decisions before moving forward (vs 43%).

94% continuously look for ways to improve their performance at work (vs 52%).

93% have complete confidence in their abilities (vs 34%).

When faced with major challenges, 81% of those with high EQ (compared to 23% of those with low EQ) become even more determined to succeed.

In contrast:

46% of those with low EQ (compared to 8% of those with high EQ) are not satisfied with their work unless someone else praises it.

39% of low EQ people (vs to 2% of high EQ people) rely on others to motivate them.

Think of IQ as the engine and EQ as the steering wheel. Emotional intelligence is what keeps teams on the road—and the best part is, you can actually learn to drive better.

Resumes don’t tell you who keeps their cool under pressure—but MEIQ-HR-R3 does (that’s why it’s great for hiring). And when it’s time to sharpen your team and your leaders through coaching, the EIQ 360 – R delivers the full picture from every angle.

[15

post-101","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-emotional-intelligence
["GET
